Found this little gem through yelp. I was with my parents in n downtown LA. We were hungry but not for anything too heavy. My search lead us to the Porter Junction Cafe. Don't be put off by the industrial location. This is truly a family run business, with the parents and daughter running it. Food is really yummy and made to order. We ordered breakfast sandwiches and they were great. The space itself is really cool, and I found out their daughter had graduated from the art center and designed the space herself. Annette Lopez,(mom and owner) has seen her share of tragedy, and does a lot for the local youth and community. Take a minute to talk to her if you get the chance. Very inspirational. The whole family was so accommodating and friendly. They didn't serve decaf coffee but they brewed some just for my parents. My 88 year old dad is very difficult to please when eating out, and he cleaned his plate. Will definitely go back to try lunch when we are in the area again. Nothing to not like here!

If you're ever driving through the weird 5S, is this the 10W or 10E? highway intersection...do yourself a favor and get off on Mateo/Santa Fe instead of driving yourself crazy or in the wrong direction and make a pit stop at The Porter Junction Cafe (M-F until 2:30pm only) for a navigational pow wow with your GPS over a delicious iced drip coffee. The lovely people serving it are a good dose of friendly before you hop back on the not-so-friendly road. The best part is that the storefront is right at the mouth of the 10E/60, so you can get back on the highway with ease (if, of course, that was the highway you were hoping to continue your road adventure on). They have wifi, tables, and some fantastic (and cheap!) bfast/lunch options and pastries.

I was on the bus all night, desperate for a nice and cozy breakfast and brunch place where I could stretch my legs and enjoy a great mornin meal; came across this place on yelp. Walked almost 2 miles to get here. Ordered vanilla iced coffee with soy milk and champions breakfast. It was soooo good that I had no choice but to order the second round. The customer service is extremely friendly and nice. I would definitely try to come back. Highly recommend.

This hidden gem is amazing! I work in the area and I always make it a point to come by to enjoy a delicious homemade-style breakfast or lunch, enjoying friendly conversation with the wonderful owners and their daughter, as well as the free Wi-Fi! Rafa's roast beef sandwich, potato salad and chocolate chip cookie is my favorite meal to order, but everything I have tried there is fresh and yummy.

Homemade Eats here! Home made potato and macaroni salad are available throughout the day along with salads, soup, sandwiches and more. The shop is surrounded by warehouses and auto shops. The exterior camouflages a very warm and inviting interior filled with good vibes. Nice tables and WiFi! I ordered the kosher hot dog and the home made potato salad. Overall, the food was AOK. ~Friendly Customer Service- 5 Stars. ~Hot Dog and Home Made Potato Salad-3.5 Stars The hot dog had flavor and a snap to it. The potato salad was flavorful and unique. ~Parking Sucks. However, the entrance to the 10 East is on the opposite side of the street and you can make a quick get away. Overall, I am a fan.

The Lopez family is doing a wonderful job! My son, Mateo and I were looking for a place to eat after an appointment downtown and decided to try the Porter Junction because of the great reviews on Yelp. We are so happy we did! Not only was the food delicious and fresh...The Lopez's are friendly and Annette makes an amazing chocolate chip cookie! The restaurant is open and airy...a welcome respite from the busy street outside. We'll be back!

Turkey-Cranberry!!! That's all I have to say. This sandwich makes my day every single time. Turkey, cranberry sauce, tomato, and lettuce with either mayo or cream cheese on a fresh roll. Pair that with one of their freshly made juices and fresh baked cookies... Amaze'! Perfect for those hot summer days. The only thing I hate is that I don't come here quite as often as I'd like.

Excellent coffee house. Food made with the most important ingredient, love. Annette is awsome and chocolate chip cookies had me wanting to sell my stereo. Try this place. You will be a regular (or irregular if you dont).

Incredible service, really cool cafe setting inside, great lighting and the food...so absolutely delicious. I this is a mom and pop business and mom cooks all the baked goods fresh each morning. My avocado turkey wrap was outstanding. Thick former turkey slices and lots of fresh veggies. Definitely coming back!!!!

Very low-key cafe spot. Horrible location. Right off the freeway. Almost seems dangerous! Its like in the middle of a buncha industrial buildings so lots of trucks and construction going on but once you walk into this place, its amazing. Its hipster af. Very clean. Art decor everywhere. Random seating. Definitely hipster. I ordered the salami special sandwich. Pretty good sandwich. Had pesto in it which really made the sandwich. Its was around 8 bucks which was standard pricing. Id definitely come back and try other items. This place truly is a gem.

This sandwich shop is soo cute! It's a little hard to find and is located before/after the 10 east. Honestly i was a little worried about coming here for lunch because the location was so unexpected but upon entering, you are greeted happily by the staff. I ordered a bacon and turkey sandwich along with a cup of chicken soup. After ordering you can sit anywhere you like and they will bring you your food. The lady working there was so nice that she offered ice water in a pitcher for me to pour in my cup. Breakfast is also served throughout the entire day till 2:30 pm. The turkey sandwich was good and best of all, the bacon wasn't some cheap thin slices of bacon. This bacon was nicely thick and crispy! The chicken noodle soup was great and flavorful with lots of veggies and chicken. The owner I believe (old lady) came over and asked how the food was and she really cared about it. Would I come back here? Heck yea! Budget friendly AND a great place for lunch. My only con about this place is I wished they closed later rather than 2:30pm.

This is the cutest spot ever. It's kind of in the industrial area & it's really small but good for lunch dates or to catch up with friends. I got the turkey breast sandwhich on multigrain bread w/ avocado and my friend got the turkey cranberry and it was delicious made straight from the heart. We met the owner she asked us about our meal and she was a total sweetheart. She even gave us complimentary cookies. Which were sooo good, soft and moist. I love when owners take pride in their food and genuinely care for their customers. It was a great time.

Best sandwich shop in L.A! A little hard to find but when you do you'll be glad you did. Family owned business who's #1 passion is great tasting sandwiches, quality with every single customer they serve and freshness all the way. I've had the tuna salad, chicken salad, vegi & turkey sandwich and they were all super good. It taste homemade every time and the cookies that the mom makes (I call her "the mom" because I forgot her name) are off the hook good - too good! Everything I've had is made fresh daily. Cleanliness- 10/10 Freshness - 10/10 Taste - 10/10 Menu - 9/10 (all the favorites) Service - 10/10 (friendly) Price $$ - good Overall - 10/10

  • Suzy H.

This place gets 2 stars for the owners & their love. Food is average. The bread is usually stale, there's not enough dressing on their sandwiches, tomatoes on the sandwiches are not very fresh. The ambiance of this small cafe is nice, it's relaxing to sit & visit with friends & have a coffee. The cookies are scrumptious.

  • Daisy D.

I loved the decor inside the place and I liked how it's a hidden location but the food was NOT good. Maybe it was my choice of sandwich. I got a croissant breakfast sandwich. Everything was sort of just slapped on. It wasn't at all anything to rave about. The reviews made it seem like it was a top A+ small business but it really wasn't. People occasionally kept walked in so I'm guessing others really do like it! Just not for me

I found this establishment on Yelp today and decided to drive up and give it a try. I ordered the Breakfast of Champions with turkey and American cheese on a croissant and the Porter House Smoothie. It was amazing!!! They didn't not disappoint. My food and napkins were brought to my seat which was lovely and they asked how everything was once I was done. So friendly!! I give the food, customer service and just their overall demeanor five stars. Also, the restroom was very clean which I appreciated very much.

We LOVE coming here for lunch. The sandwiches are great...Rafa's Roast Beef is my favorite. Really like the potato and macaroni salads. Even if we don't go here for lunch, we often stop by for an afternoon coffee...Jeff's Oil and Vanilla Lattes are my favorites, hot and cold. I can't decide if I LOVE the food or the owners more...I think they might be the nicest people I know.

I was looking for a new spot to try since I was out in the area for a meeting, my goal is to find a new place every week with the aid of Yelp!!! :) Found this place on Yelp, and it wasn't too far away from my current location. It did take some time to find, and I had to circle the area a few times to find parking. It is in a very random location, right before a freeway exit & surrounded my various car shops. If you do find this place, right next to it is an alley way in which you can turn down and actually find some parking. As I walked in I was immediately greeted by the two employees that worked there, who seemed genuinely happy to see me. They have a sparse menu with breakfast items & sandwiches. I opted for the turkey, cranberry on whole wheat. The gentlemen taking my order explained to me that she (The Cook) either uses mayo or cream cheese, of course I went with the cream cheese :) I took a seat and made some business calls, and my sandwich was out soon after. It was great! Turkey was fresh & moist, pretty much all I can ask for. I devoured it in minutes & went to go on my way. The server was sure to ask me if I enjoyed everything, I replied that it was delicious. He also made sure to tell me to have a great day & that they hope to see me soon. I am such a sucker for nice people, it seems so simple but honestly it is hard to find. Great Sandwiches & even better customer service. I am giving only four stars because the menu is very limited & parking is really hard to find but all in all great experience.

I'm sure this place is great, and I've been seeing them on Yelp for a while because I work nearby. Went out of my way to come here this morning before work and they were supposed to be open at 830, (it was 850) a guy who works nearby (and was walking by) said that they're supposed to be open and that she's in there. He looked in the window and said that he sees her. He knocked, I knocked, and she still didn't come to the door that's just rude. You're running a business. At the very least, she could have come out and said that they'll be open in a few minutes. Needless to say, I will not be attempting to return to this establishment, which is a bummer because their food looks awesome and it's really close to my work, but their service (as far as I'm concerned) is pretty damn bad.

  • Austin R.

Love this place! Although I may be a bit biased as a neighbor and friend to this family owned joint. Everything is home-made and fresh, including the muffins and cookies. I love that their hot dogs are Kosher, it siginifies that they care about quality food and ingredients! They are a great morning and afternoon spot, especially if you are trying to eat in. They have wi-fin and with the location being amidst a more industrial area of town it remains rather open with a comfy seating selection.

  • Diana Jeanne N.

I love coming here. Everybody is so nice and they take the time to explain certain items on the menu for you. They can of course make modifications to any sandwich. Breakfast sandwiches are served all day! I am a breakfast fan, so I love this. Some of their smoothies are all natural: Berry Smoothie Paradise Green blend Prices aren't bad. I would recommend coming here for a good homemade sandwich and smoothies. Porter junction really is a gem in this industrial part of DTLA

This place is wonderful! Family owned and operated by very friendly people. Prices are decent and the food is delicious. I found this on a temp job in the area and was excited by their sandwich options. Super customizable with your choice of great breads or tortillas and add anything you want inside. This is the kind of place I dream of opening someday.

  • Anthony R.

Awesome turkey club! These guys make some tasty sandwiches and wraps! Great smoothies! I will be returning very soon. Thanks Porter Junction you have the best food around! Park in the green curb in front of the restaurant. Don't be scared by the noise outside this place is super quiet inside. It's like a little oasis! Very nice inside!

This is just the cutest spot. Like stepping into a little 1950s time capsule and at the same time being embraced by the warm family that owns it. Well-made and decently priced smoothies, and yummy Mexican mocha. They had a great selection of cheap breakfast and homemade sandwiches and wraps - next time I'm hungry, will have to give it a try.

My new favorite lunch spot!! Cute little cafe hidden away from all the trucks coming through Porter St. I'm so glad I found this little hidden gem. The owners are beyond amazing. They are super nice & helpful. Cafe is really clean and tidy. Food is delicious! What more can you ask for? I stopped by in the morning to grab my morning cup of jo (which was delicious! Definitely way better than Starbucks!). Then I came in at lunch and ordered the egg salad sandwich. Yum! I'll definitely become a regular at this spot!

This is a fabulous family owned cafe. The food was amazing and the owners are the nicest people I have ever met in LA. They have come through some hard times and treat everyone like family. They have sandwiches, wraps, yummy coffee and fresh baked goods They serve breakfast and lunch and are definitely worth the stop if you are in the area.

This place is truly a hidden gem. It is family owned and run, and it seems like they truly care about their customers, whether they are loyal patrons or first-timers. I stopped by here with a friend to get a quick bite to eat, and the food was delicious. I ordered a chicken salad wrap with chipotle tortilla, and I absolutely loved it. The owner (and I'm guessing main chef) came out to ask about our opinion on the food and we had a nice chat with her (: if I lived around this area, this would be my go-to place for a snack and study session.

Have had numerous lunches at Porter Junction and have always enjoyed the wraps especially Andy's Special that has both egg and tuna salad in the same wrap. The Family that runs Porter Junction always greets our arrival as if we were one of their own.

I had the porter bagel here and it was delicious but above all the owners are the sweetest people. They gave us free cookies and even took the time to have a conversation with us. That's a super plus in my book !

It is quite possible to miss this inconspicuous eatery as The Porter Junction rests in an area that may be out of place. The 10 East onramp is perpendicularly located from The Porter Junction. Surrounding businesses are a hodge podge of manufacturing, garment, auto body shops and anything else you can think of. That being said, it behooves me when I consider who are their prospective patrons. The highly populated blue-collar Latino and Southeast Asians laboring in this area tend to BYO lunch or purchase food from the catering truck that parks in front of the pallet company. Lo and behold, there are a few artsy folks and shop workers that patronize The Porter Junction. I come to the realization that The Porter Junction is a sort of an oasis in the midst of a concrete jungle. Parking is an issue but not entirely impossible. There are sporadic available curbside spots. There is a lack of artistic value from the eatery's exterior, but as you enter, you'll notice the brick walls leading up to bare wooden high ceilings and a gorgeous turquoise Tiffany Blue wall canvasing several art pieces portraying coffee cups and freeway/interstate road signs. There are also the fun square shaped leather neon orange chairs. The atmosphere is really nice. And the people running the shop even nicer. The facility is clean as well as their restroom. I was greeted by Annette as I walked in. She was preparing food for another patron at the moment, granting me a moment to digest the simple menu. My decision was fairly easy as I chose a 2% Caffe Latte, "Breakfast of Champions" Croissant Sandwich, and an Oatmeal with Strawberries & Bananas. 2% Caffe Latte: 3/5 Your milk options are whole milk, 2%, and skim. My expectations couldn't have been as high as a coffee house as Urth or Intelligentsia. The Porter Junction is not cannot be placed in that category. Their latte is actually on par with something you would have at Starbucks. I found my espresso beverage to be a bit too milky and a tad bitter...exactly like Starbucks. "Breakfast of Champions" Croissant Sandwich: 3.5/5 A buttery sweet croissant is the foundation of this sandwich containing a slice of Black Forest Ham, Scrambled Eggs and Swiss (or your choice of cheese). This was a pretty delicious sandwich. Regrettably, the serving of ham is lacking, but you certainly cannot expect much for a $4 sandwich. Oatmeal with Fresh Strawberries & Bananas: 4/5 Hearty oats mingling with sliced banana and strawberries. Add sugar to taste. Although this was a standard oatmeal, it does beat what you would get from McDonald's or Starbucks. Final thoughts: The Porter Junction is a nice change of pace for anyone working in this part of LA. Their hospitality and personal touch is attractive and they prepare your food and beverages with TLC. I am glad The Porter Junction is located where it is. They bring a touch of class to a very 'hard' area. Best wishes to this new business. 3.75 stars (rounded up)

Stopped by for first time at 11am on a Tuesday, place was closed. Hell of a long walk. Hate to give one star for a place I didn't get to try, but that does it for my lunch hour today. Stick to your posted hours or at least put a sign up.

This was my go to place when I worked in Vernon (aka boonsville). They were actually my savior whenever lunch time came around. Don't know what to eat for lunch? Porter Junction it is! A dirty chai latte with almond milk is a must everytime I lunch here. Seriously one of the best chai lattes. And an occasional mom-made cupcake to go- so cute they decorate their cupcakes to the holidays! Their food is good and fresh with no fluff. Family run, friendly and homemade is always awesome.

  • Bridget P.

Excellent little healthy sandwich place. All their breads are fresh and they have a nice variety. Enjoyed the chai iced tee too! Have been there 4 times as the open up for a local theater production (Dungeon Master) and we will continue to go there so long as they are so gracious to open up for the show.

  • Aly L.

Awesome hidden secret in DTLA. As a strong drinker of a chai lattes they definitely make one of the best chai lattes (ice and hot!) I've ever had. The right amount of creamy and spices (I do like my chai's more on the creamier side). Also highly recommend their breakfast croissant with ham. It's a nice thick slice of ham and fills you up nicely for a morning breakfast sandwich. Also the couple that runs it are so nice and friendly. Very customer service oriented. Prices are perfect- really reasonable and affordable. I wish it was open on the weekends!

  • Katie W.

One of my favorite lunch spots!! Everyone here is so nice and they remember you! Some of the best pricing ever! I always get the chai tea latte iced with almond milk, it's rich and delicious and great on a hot day. The Rafa's roast beef on ciabatta is my go to, it has this horseradish mayo that adds some extra kick to it. This bread is the best in my opinion because there ends up not being too much. I hate too much bread. Meh. I can get a drink and a sandwich..which is huge btw for around 10 bucks. Perfect.

So I didn't have time to pack my lunch, the guys I work with always come here. I thought I would check it out. The place is super cute but, you wouldn't know that by the outside. It's a small family owned place and they are super nice. I ordered the turkey club and it was so good! Homemade potato salad. I'm yelping this while sitting here. I'll be back another day I don't bring my lunch! :)

In an industrial part of town, this is one place I go to feel like home. A really lovely family runs this little coffee shop cafe. I come here to relax during lunch and enjoy my food. The wraps are all delicious, and every once in a while I treat myself to a Mexican mocha or chai latte. The hours are a bit limited, but you really can't get much business in this area during "off" hours.

Ok I just had lunch here and the 1st thing I did when I got back to work was write this Yelp review. This place is a hidden gem downtown and I don't know HTH I missed it in the 2.5 yrs they have been open. Compared to all the other "bread lounge" spots nearby this place if far better food wise and price wise. The owners are so sweet and boy do they make a mean vanilla latte. I am drinking it now thinking I may be kicking starbucks to the curb (at least mon-fri)....from the outside you would think this was a jainky hole in the wall but such is not the case....very quaint and super clean...you feel like you are in a friends kitchen grabbing a bite to eat...trust me I will be back and back and back...next time I am having oatmeal and pb&j....

Love this place! Discovered Porter Junction while taking a walk during my lunch break. Their coffee is great and the owners and their family rule! Some of the nicest people I've met in LA! They also deliver to my office which is definitely a plus. Love getting their egg sandwich in the morning. I highly recommend this place if you not only want some good coffee but like to support local businesses run by genuinely good people.

Tried coming here TWICE at 8:35AM and place was closed both times. In fact I'm sitting in front of the cafe right now waiting for them to open... Now I'm gonna have to get a sad coffee from McDonald's and be late to work :( fail.

From the outside you would never guess Far more than I expected Very Large Very Clean free Wi Fi great Americano Fresh Wrap and very personal service. The Porter Junction is a great space very open nicely done. We sat down and stayed 2 hours longer than we expected. The time just slipped away it was so relaxing. Porter Junction easily makes it on the list of favorite spots. I'm not a fan of places like Urth or Intelegentsia , I like places more down to planet Earth and Porter Junction fits the bill. Thank You Porter Junction Cafe your atmosphere adds itself to the list.

  • Cindi R.

Cute little funky mom and pop place that's only open for breakfast and lunch. Great prices. I had the Andy's Special which is a tuna and egg salad sandwich. Lots of different bread choices but the owner, Annette, suggested the white roll so that's what I got. Not what I would normally order but it was an awesome choice. They get their rolls from a local bakery daily so it was really fresh. I had a side of potato salad which was also homemade. It had a nice kick to it. All in all a great find!

Amazing food! Great Prices! Really good coffee and iced teas!! The people running it are really wonderful, and they've created a really nice atmosphere as well. This place is a great find in this part of the city. Really accessible to the Arts district as well. Good stuff. :D

  • Dizzy D.

They are trying.... I can say that. Very very friendly, & accommodating - 5 stars Cute hang-out area with free wi-fi. - 4 stars Very cheap as well. Fresh veggies in wraps / bagels, and other eggy breakfast items. Not amazeballs, but worth it - 3 stars The coffee was pretty bad though, as it was probably sitting for hours & tasted like cheap cafeteria coffee to begin with. (I'd rather pay more for good coffee any day). - 0 stars It's an alternative to Urth, or Groundwerks if you're in the area and want to support a young coffee shop... But at this point they could never cater to those higher-standard crowds that would patronize Urth or GW. 3 stars overall for effort & price, but definitely not the coffee :)

I love family owned businesses!!! I really liked the mexican mocha and their breakfast for champions! The cafe is also super great for studying ambiance and cool when it's warm outside. I will definitely come back again!!!

I've been working in the area for 3 years now and this is exactly what the area needed. I agree with Roland, you might just miss this place if you aren't paying attention, but if you seek it out, you shall be rewarded! The family-run cafe serves up delicious organic eats and custom coffees, with a passion i haven't seen in a while. They've even catered to our entire shoot crew with 90+ sandwiches, on time, and super cheap! Be sure to try their tuna sandwich on Sourdough or French Roll (Baked Fresh everyday!). I love this place. My only grievance is that they need to stay open later!

Took my baby cousin here to take a break from shopping in Santee Alley. Even though we were close to the time the cafe closed, they were very accommodating and welcoming. The food was fast and delicious, and we did not feel rished at all. As a matter of fact, it was the owner and her son that helped us, and we spent a good amount of time chitchatting with them. SUPER friendly, I wish I lived closer! I would eat here ever day!

Great service! The staff here went out of their way just to make sure that or drinks were just right. The lady asked me if the porter's paradise was good (it was awesome! ) and the guy cleaning up around us (and working the cashier) asked us if the iced cappuccino was just right (it was!). A discovered this place while going to the LAvsWAR art event and are so glad we did. The place is authentically urban (without trying)while being a comfortable place to chill.

Not only is this place super close to my apartment, they have the best tuna sandwiches, potato salad, and kosher hot dogs!!!! The owners are sooooooo cool. They give a new name to mom and pop's.

I'm in love with this cafe. Family owned and operated who are about as nice as they come, the breakfast sandwich on croissant was delicious and inexpensive. I highly recommend this place--certainly my new favorite

The Porter Junction Cafe is amazing! First of all, Annette and her family operate the restaurant like an extension of their home. It feels like you're sitting down in their living room - it's welcoming, warm and homey. Secondly, and more importantly, the food is delicious. We each had egg breakfast sandwiches on croissants, which were fantastic. The croissants were flaky and fresh and selections of meats (bacon, turkey, turkey sausage and ham) and cheeses (American, cheddar, spicy jack, Swiss) allowed us each to create our own custom sandwich. I also had a really yummy berry smoothie. To top it off, Annette brought out her homemade cookies, which were still warm and gooey. Incredible! I'm telling you, this place feels like home and is definitely worth the trip. Annette and her family are creating a friendly oasis in this neighborhood that I hope will be there for years and years to come.

Great family run business-- Annette and her husband are always so sweet and friendly! On my first visit she added some extra cinnamon rolls on the house. Food is fresh, though selection is a bit limited. Really enjoy the relaxed interior that was designed by the owners' daughter and built by the family! A real sanctuary when it comes to getting lunch in Vernon.

Home made style food. Great quality. Great coffee/breakfast options, too. Super nice staff. Relaxing, modern style. Laid back. Hidden gem, for sure. Could be hard to find. If you park in the back, tell them so you get a parking pass.

I LOVE this place! The food is fresh and delicious; the decor is modern and cool; the ambience is great; the prices are the best in LA and the service is warm, inviting and friendly! Annette is the owner and she is very personable, helpful and seems to really care about everyone who enters her cafe. My personal favorites on the menu are the egg salad sandwich, the tuna sandwich, the salads - and I would drive across town for their tropical iced tea - literally!
